Primo Kiln Fired Saltillo

Saltillo is a hand crafted product made from clay found in the clay banks of Saltillo, Mexico. The product is rinsed, pressed into slabs, cut into forms and laid in the sun to dry. It is then fired in an oven for approximately 20-36 hours. Primo Saltillo is made through a similar process, but the wet clay is laid against newspaper and pressed flat into an aluminum mold, which accounts for the rounded edges and smoother surface. Each tile is made individually by hand and each will have its own character. Not every piece will be the same size, color or thickness. They are not all flat or square.
